Chapter Activities and Projects

Every year, in support of the NSDAR objectives of historic preservation, education, and patriotism, the Estudillo Chapter, NSDAR raises funds for the restoration of the Estudillo Mansion, presents bronze medals and awards to local Junion Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) programs, and gives flags and pins to local students. We present the John Diggs History Scholarship, the Ferguson English Scholarship, and DAR Good Citizens awards to deserving high school students. Our chapter Daughters annually participate in Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Veterans Day ceremonies in local communities by placing beautiful, patriotic wreaths.

Literacy Committee

Members of the Estudillo Chapter, NSDAR, have "adopted" the Jacob Wiens Elementary School in Hemet, California. Some of our members volunteer several hours a week helping teachers in the classroom with their specific needs, including paperwork and, assist students in the area of reading, spelling, mathematics, and kindergarten artwork. It is great fun, and the school staff and students are very appreciative.

In support of our active servicemen and women throughout the world, our members have donated over 130 appropriate subject books which were distributed through Operation Gratitude to Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force service personnel. So far Operation Gratitude has provided over 600,000 boxes over the past few years. Previously we had donated the books to the Loma Linda University Veterans Hospital.

Family History Month

We spend a day in the Heritage Room at the Hemet Public Library during the Family History Month of October. We also attend the "Family History Fair" at the LDS Church in Hemet each October. Top genealogists hold classes, and the event is well attended. We set up a display and tell visitors about our Society.

Other Activities

In addition to the activities outlined above, Estudillo Chapter, NSDAR, members contribute to U.S. Veterans programs, Toys for Tots, Ronald McDonald House, Pennies for Pines, and other charitable endeavors.
